In the classroom 5/6
A Window into 5/6 Red
We have been working hard in 5 / 6 in the 6 weeks we have been at school. We have written our own narratives and are now starting our persuasive unit. To start it off we had to write a paragraph to convince Miss Taylor to let us have a class party at the end of term. In Maths, we have just finished our work on addition and subtraction. We were working on
adding decimals with 1 to 3 decimal places, magic squares and word problems.
On Tuesday, for Reading, we learnt about Shrove Tuesday or Pancake Day. We learnt how it is the last day
before Lent begins. Lent is the time leading up to Easter, when people often give up something. In the past, people were not allowed to eat foods such as eggs, so to use them before Lent began, they would make
pancakes. To celebrate Shrove Tuesday we got to make and eat pancakes in class – thank you Anne for helping us!
Last Friday was International Women’s Day. We learnt how we have been celebrating International Women’s Day for over 100 years. We also talked about ways we can make sure we are making the gender balance better at Willowmavin while having a celebratory morning tea. We were also each given a woman of importance in history. Some of the women were Oprah Winfrey, Cleopatra, Anne Frank and Queen Elizabeth. We had to research their life and find the school they went to, when they were born, life events and a quote to remember them.
